With GLA55 Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker returns to radical minimalism, this time exploring early compositions by Philip Glass. Six dancers from Rosas explore circle and spiral movements for 55 minutes in an intense choreography. Two women. Four movements. That's all Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker needed to create Fase. With that groundbreaking choreography to the early works of Steve Reich, she redefined the foundations of contemporary dance in 1982. More than 40 years later, De Keersmaeker turns again to early works - this time by Philip Glass. His compositions from the 1960s, such as Music in Contrary Motion and Music in Fifths, are just as radically minimalist as the work of the young Reich. The new production GLA55 is built around ten circular and spiral-shaped movements with which De Keersmaeker explores the boundaries of perseverance. For 55 minutes six dancers cross the stage. With GLA55, De Keersmaeker does what she has excelled at throughout her entire career: exploring abstract minimalist material to the utmost.
