Dans

In Sing Child Sing, Botis Seva explores how memories and trauma become embedded in the body. The Olivier Award-winning choreographer combines hiphop, physical theater and contemporary dance in an intense solo about pain, faith and transformation. In Sing Child Sing, his first solo, British choreographer Botis Seva investigates how we carry the past in our bodies - and what it takes to loosen that grip. Starting from autobiographical experiences, he shows how abandonment, faith and frustration become physically embedded and visible in gestures of resilience, tension and letting go. Seva, winner of an Olivier Award, has developed a distinctive visual language at the intersection of hiphop, movement theater and contemporary dance. The audience at DE SINGEL witnessed this earlier during Until We Sleep, in 2024 in the Red hall. With his hiphop dance theater company Far From The Norm, he creates work that starts from personal experiences and the stories of the communities in which he grew up. In Sing Child Sing, Seva shows how pain, detachment, frustration, but also trust nestle in the body. Those traces resurface as injury and support, because the way forward is unpredictable. That is precisely what makes this production a moving and courageous portrait of change.
