Electronic composer Caterina Barbieri brings hypnotic modular synth music together with a large ensemble. Electronics, voices and orchestra explore trance, perception and the boundary between the finite and the infinite. The Italian composer and modular synth virtuosa Caterina Barbieri is known for her hypnotic, sequencer-driven electronic music. In her work she explores the relationship between machine intelligence, human perception and emotional, almost ecstatic states of consciousness. With repetitive patterns and complex generative techniques, she creates trance-like sound worlds in which time, memory and perception continuously shift. Barbieri has performed at leading festivals and arts institutions worldwide. She also founded the label light-years, a platform for deep listening and experimental music, and is currently artistic director of the Biennale Musica in Venice. At deSingel she presents both a solo performance with visuals by MFO and a collaboration with ONCEIM - the Orchestre de Nouvelles Créations, Expérimentations et Improvisations, an ensemble of more than 30 musicians from jazz, contemporary music and improvisation. Together they present Non puoi contare l'infinito, a work for orchestra, voices and electronics. Starting from Barbieri's electronic practice, the composition explores themes such as origin, separation and transformation. The orchestra becomes a living microcosm in which the relationship between the finite and the infinite becomes audible.
