CIDOO - International Competition for Opera Conductors

One week to reveal a talent, one baton to lead an orchestra: the CIDOO opens its doors to the public. In August 2017, the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège took on an ambitious challenge with a unique international competition dedicated entirely to opera direction. A second edition followed in 2022, with a first prize for young Peruvian conductor Dayner Tafur-Díaz — in February 2025, the third edition unveiled a new generation with Sieva Borzak, Matteo Dal Maso and Johann-Sebastian Guzman. The fourth edition runs from 15 to 20 March, before a jury of conductors and opera directors from leading international institutions. Throughout the week, participants go through all the preparatory phases of an opera conductor: varied repertoire, work with the house choir and orchestra, and collaboration with numerous soloists. All rounds are open to the public — a unique opportunity to follow the rehearsal process up close and support your favourite candidate right through to the final concert.
