With All Saints' Day and Armistice Day, November is the month par excellence to reflect on the past.To commemorate what should never have happened, and to celebrate all blessed moments.A deeply personal matter, for which no script or established cultural code exists. Vaughan Williams, marked by the horrors of the First World War, recalls better times with nostalgia. In his music he seeks a way out of the madness of war through stillness, tenderness and poetry, in a typically English pastoral soundscape. Mozart and Dvořák, on the other hand, burst with joie de vivre and happy memories of home.
