Enji – A feeling of home in music

Enji brings her unique blend of Mongolian folk and jazz, with influences of throat singing, in a trio with River Adomeit and Paul Brändle. Music from her album Sonor explores identity and connection in a layered, intimate and genre-transcending sound. Enji, born in Ulaanbaatar, grew up with traditional folk music and dance. Later she deepened her exploration of throat singing, an ancient singing technique characteristic of Mongolian music and clearly audible on her breakthrough album Ulaan. As a trained vocalist, she sings melodic jazz in her native language, resulting in a distinctive and layered musical blend. In 2025, Sonor appeared, her third album on the Squama label. In it, Enji explores themes such as identity and connection through vivid lyrics - thoughtfully, searchingly and at the same time hopefully. Like her earlier albums Ursgal and Ulaan, Sonor moves at the intersection of jazz and folk, without pinning itself down to one genre. At DE SINGEL, Enji presents her new work in the familiar trio setup, together with River Adomeit on double bass and co-composer Paul Brändle on guitar.
