Mendelssohn's 'Italian'
Thursday 20 May 2027, 20:00
In this final programme of the season we hear the call of the summer holidays and dream of travels that broaden our horizons.
Italian composer Sollima embodies the multicultural character of his native city Palermo. With echoes of all kinds of ethnic traditions from the Mediterranean region, Spasimo is an eclectic trip. Close your eyes and imagine yourself among citrus trees, jasmine and the salty harbour air. Palermo comes to life!
Mendelssohn's Italian then takes us through the Italian countryside. The composer was barely 20 years old when he began writing the symphony during a European tour. Cheerfully he takes you by the hand through the streets of Venice, Rome, Florence and Naples. Is your suitcase ready?
