An audiovisual performance in which sound and video explore the experience of migration and displacement. Four artists from different countries explore how identity changes in a world of continuous movement. A Forbidden Distance is an audiovisual performance that examines the relationship between identity and displacement. The project brings together Iranian-Canadian brothers Mohammad and Mehdi (Saint Abdullah), Irish sound artist Ian McDonnell (Eomac) and London-based video artist and filmmaker Rebecca Salvadori in their first joint creation. Starting from their diverse backgrounds, the work explores what it means to live with displacement and migration as a constant reality. What significance does an individual life have when one is forced to move, swept along by the nomadic currents of our time? By interweaving sound and image, A Forbidden Distance examines how identity persists and changes in a world of movement and borders. At the same time, the project itself is an example of intercultural collaboration between artists from different geographic and artistic contexts.
