Antwerp Symphony Orchestra

The Antwerp Symphony Orchestra is the symphony orchestra of Flanders (Belgium), with the Koningin Elisabethzaal in Antwerpen as its home base. The orchestra enjoys close collaboration with honorary conductor Philippe Herreweghe and conductor emeritus Jaap van Zweden, and performs concerts on the largest stages at home and abroad. From the 2026-2027 season, Marc Albrecht will take on the role of chief conductor of the orchestra. As one of seven arts institutions of the Flemish Community, the organization is one of the most important representatives of culture in the region.

From its inception in 1955, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra has seen it as its mission to move as large an audience as possible with classical and contemporary symphonic repertoire. Domestically, the orchestra performs each season, in addition to its Antwerpen home base, also in East Flanders (Muziekcentrum De Bijloke), West Flanders (Concertgebouw Brugge), in Brussels (Bozar/Paleis voor Schone Kunsten). As a cultural ambassador of Flanders, the orchestra undertakes international tours within and outside Europe each season. Antwerp Symphony Orchestra is not only the resident orchestra of the Koningin Elisabethzaal, but also the custodian of the classical repertoire in the golden hall. Complementary to its own productions in its residence, the orchestra, in collaboration with Cofena, invites international top orchestras for concerts in the country's finest concert hall.
