Fatma Said

Fatma Said (Cairo, 1991) is an Egyptian opera singer and soprano.

Fatma Said was born in Cairo. Her father is Ahmed Hassan Said, one of the founders of the Free Egyptians Party during the Arab Spring, and president of the country from May 2013 to September 2014. Following the family tradition, she studied at the Deutsche Schule der Borromäerinnen Kairo, a private girls' school. During music lessons, they analyzed classical songs and Beethoven sonatas and listened to blues and jazz.
Initially she is mainly engaged in tennis, but on the recommendation of her choir teacher at school, she receives her first singing lessons at the age of fourteen from soprano Neveen Allouba. In 2009 she goes to the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin to study classical singing. In 2013 she obtains her bachelor's degree there and in 2018 she completes her master's degree under the guidance of prof. Renate Faltin. She also receives a scholarship for the Opera Academy of La Scala in Milan. In 2015 she sings a small role at La Scala during the world premiere of Giorgio Battistelli's opera CO2, which is based on Al Gore's documentary An Inconvenient Truth. In 2016 she is already BBC Radio 3 'New Generation Artist' and performs Pamina in Peter Stein's production of Die Zauberflöte at La Scala. This production was broadcast by ARTE and has since also been released on DVD.
