Plamena Mangova

Plamena Mangova (Pleven, 1980) is a Bulgarian pianist who won second prize in the Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd for piano in 2007.

Mangova began her studies with Russian pianist Marina Kapatsinskaja at the Staatsmuziekacademie Pancho Vladigerov in Sofia and showed early signs of exceptional musical talent. The pianist won first prize at the Internationaal Concours van Stresa and at the Pianowedstrijd van Koshitze, and in 1998 third prize at the Internationaal Pianoconcours Paloma O'Shea in Santander. This was followed by a concert tour through Spain with performances with numerous orchestras under conductors such as Jean-Bernard Pommier, Victor Pablo Pérez, Peter Csaba and Milen Nachev. She won first prize at the Cantuconcours for piano and orchestra (2002) and at the Internationale Kamermuziekwedstrijd 'Vittorio Giu' (2003, with violinist Alissa Margulis). In 1999 she continued her piano studies at the Escuela Superior de Musica 'Reina Sofia' with Dmitri Basjkirov. She received the 'Prize for best chamber musician' from the Spanish queen. Her other teachers included Galina Egiezarova, Claudio-Martinez Mehner, Marta Gulyas and Eldar Nebolsin. Furthermore, she was awarded the Granadosprijs by Alicia de Larrocha in Andorra.
The pianist became a laureate of the Juventus-stichting in Cambrai (France) in 2003. In June 2004 she participated in 'Carte blanche voor Maxim Vengerov' at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
