Wim Winters
Wim Winters (Lommel, 6 March 1972) is a Belgian harpsichordist and organist.
Winters was twelve when he began music studies in 1984. The following year he participated in the International Organ Competition for amateurs in Boxtel (Netherlands) and won First Prize. He then decided to become a professional musician. From 1990 he studied at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam: organ with Jacques van Oortmerssen and piano with Willem Brons. He completed these studies in 1998 with highest distinction.
During his studies he also attended courses with Jean Boyer, Hans van Nieuwkoop, Hans Davidsson and Harald Vogel.
He participated in various organ competitions:
1994: Twice First Prize (baroque and romantic) at the Student Organ Competition Leiden
1997: Third Prize at the international organ competition in Brugge, as part of the Festival Oude Muziek
1999: Third Prize at the international competition 'Europa en het orgel' in Maastricht
1999: Third Prize at the Schnitger Organ Competition in Alkmaar.
Since then he has performed extensively, among others in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Belgium.
His interest in historical performance practice led him to frequently play the harpsichord. From 2008 he gave concerts around the oeuvre of the Bach family, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven, on an unfretted harpsichord of 5 octaves, built by Belgian builder Joris Potvlieghe.
