The ritual and life cycle that are characteristic of the Capella de Ministrers' repertoire transcend cultural boundaries thanks to the deep shared roots of the peoples around the Mediterranean. For centuries, this "Mare Nostrum" was a place of meeting and coexistence for Jewish, Sephardic, Arabic, Turkish, Greek and many other communities, who shared languages, customs and music in a network of exchange and cultural fusion. After the expulsion of the Sephardic Jews from Spain in 1492, these communities preserved and enriched their musical and social traditions in their new settlements around the Mediterranean. This led to a musical culture of great richness and diversity, expressed in numerous languages - Hebrew, Arabic, Turkish, Bulgarian, Ladino - symbols of coexistence and dialogue between peoples. Music is a universal language capable of conveying the pain, hope, spirituality and daily life of those who create and share it. It is a living testimony of collective memory and an instrument of social cohesion. When we think of places such as Casablanca, Thessaloniki, Sofia, Ferrara, Venetië, Odessa, Istanbul, Tanger, Algiers, Tunis, Tripoli, Alexandrië, Smyrna or Jeruzalem, we come into contact with a shared cultural memory and celebrate the dignity and historical richness of the peoples around the Mediterranean. This ritual, born from the encounter of different life paths and shared histories, embodies diversity, peaceful coexistence and the integrating power of culture and resists forgetting, genocide and marginalization. Honoring this heritage is an act of historical recognition and a commitment to peace, dialogue and the peaceful coexistence of cultures.
