sonatas for obbligato

Bach often reuses (parts of) his compositions, both in terms of vocal music (text parody) and instrumental music. Sometimes Bach adapted his music for a different instrument in a different musical key. A specific example can be found in the aria 'Leget euch dem Heiland unter' from the cantata 'Himmelskönig sei willkommen' BWV 182, composed in 1714. Ten years later Bach made changes to the recorder part to facilitate playability in a new key. This is a valuable and inspiring example for any attempt to rediscover lost chamber music through transcriptions. For this CD, material was used from the repertoire for different instruments, such as Bach's trio sonatas for organ (BWV 525-530), violin sonatas (BWV 1014-1019), viola da gamba sonatas (BWV 1027-1029) and finally, and unsurprisingly, his flute sonatas. The autograph of the first movement of the flute sonata BWV 1032 has been handed down to us only in fragments; a large part of the first movement is missing. For this, Gerard de Wit made a reconstruction based on the remaining material. Gerard de Wit: "With this CD my wife and I hope to serve two purposes: first, to expand the chamber music repertoire for recorder with a reconstruction BWV 1032 and transcriptions for BWV 525, 1016, 1027; second, to have answered the question of what Bach's chamber music for recorder sounded like.
