With De Falla, the musicians seek out the sunlight, while with the notes of Jan-Peter de Graaff they venture into the tavern. Van Gogh's Le café de nuit served as a source of inspiration. Spanish gardens It is peculiar with De Falla's Noches en los jardines de España. The composer had never been to Granada, but came across a booklet in Paris about the Spanish gardens of Granada full of stories about the king's harem. Inspiration enough for a nocturne for piano and orchestra that will make many blush. Joy and danger Dutch composer Jan-Peter de Graaff was guided by the painting of the same name by Vincent van Gogh for his Café de nuit. The café as a place where the darkest side of human behaviour comes to the surface. 'In the work I tried to find a strange balance between joy and danger, between alertness – or even panic – and drunkenness, between passion and truth,' according to the composer.
