Chansons d'amour britanniques par Lea Desandre et Thomas Dunford Les Britanniques sont connus pour leur humour noir, mais moins pour leur passion. Mais avec leur album Songs of Passion, la mezzosoprano Lea Desandre et le luthiste Thomas Dunford se consacrent précisément à cet aspect rarement reconnu. Il y a en effet John Dowland, qui a fait sensation à la cour d'Elizabeth I avec ses chansons envoûtantes. Les mélancoliques chansons de luth de Dowland sont maintenant combinées sur le nouvel album du rêve team de la musique ancienne avec les pièces variées de Henry Purcell. Purcell est né environ 100 ans après Dowland et est le compositeur baroque le plus célèbre de l'île. Six pièces de son opéra Dido and Aeneas figurent sur l'album Songs of Passion, dont la plainte poignante de Dido When I am laid in earth. Songs of Passion est le quatrième album que Lea Desandre (gagnante du Prix de la Critique 2024 et Opus Klassik 2022) a sorti avec Thomas Dunford chez Erato. Il s'inscrit thématiquement dans la continuité d'Eternal Heaven et Idylle, avec lesquels le duo a exploré l'amour et la passion dans des œuvres de Händel et de compositeurs français. Comme auparavant, l'Ensemble Jupiter de Dunford figure parmi les collaborateurs, ainsi que quatre chanteuses invitées réputées : alto Jess Dandy, ténor Laurence Kilsby, baryton Huw Montague Rendall et basse Alex Rosen.
